While recently watching the movie Something Borrowed starring Kate Hudson, I couldn’t help but watch in awe as one friend secretly dated her best friend’s fiancé behind her back. While I get the writers’ point of attempting to make a romantic chick flick (and in their defense it was actually a cute movie), I immediately knew that the two writers of the movie weren’t aware, or didn’t care, about the girlfriend codes.

While one of my friends suggested that the characters in the film, and presumably the writers, lacked a bit of melanin to their skin that might possibly excuse them from understanding the codes, I was still shocked that any close friend, no matter what color or ethnic background, would find it acceptable to date a friend’s fiancé and automatically expect forgiveness from her hurt homie.

The girlfriend codes, although unspoken, are those ultimate no-no’s and the most important musts that are required amongst girlfriends; and while each friendship has its own custom set of unspoken rules, most girls would agree on these six specific codes.

I really hoped this information was false when I read it via RollingStone.Com. According to the magazine and other sources, Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, was rushed to the hospital and shortly pronounced dead earlier today. Causes of his death are unknown.

Mya who has somewhere around six pets, ran for her love of animals this past weekend. On yesterday, the Grammy-Award winning singer participated in the North Shore Animal League Pre-Race Rally in New York to raise money for life saving efforts for animals.

Although I don’t claim to be the biggest animal lover, I do have a fond place for them in my heart because of my Yorkie, King. So kudos to Mya.

By now every media outlet has broad-casted the Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries pending divorce. Although I was skeptical about their marriage lasting, I didn’t expect it to be over so soon. Then there was that other part of me that hoped they would actually last and their marriage wasn’t in fact a publicity stunt. So much for that tad bit of hope.

While I could actually care less if Kim and Kris stayed together, divorced, or even reproduced, my hope was solely based on the fact that I didn’t want two people to take something so sacred and make it a publicity stunt for the sake of more fame and fortune; but after being married for only two months, it seems that either Kim and Kris don’t have any sort of fight in them to make a relationship work or their marriage was truly all for a bit of extra pub..and not to mention the millions of dollars made from their wedding photos and other coverage. My gut instinct is telling me it had more to do with the latter. And if that is this case, it only leads me to wonder what won’t some people in Hollywood do for money these days?

In Hollywood acts done behind closed doors (like sex) are broad-casted for the world to see (and buy on DVD); and taking vows before God are taken just as seriously as a high school promise ring. At what point do some of these celebrities allow fame to take a backseat to morals and values?

I’m sure we will see what stories the two of them conjure up over the next few weeks to gain even more publicity. What are your thoughts?

Yes, HDF has been giving you a Beyonce overload lately; but the girl is definitely busy working before she gets even busier being a mom. The hard-working singer released a sneak peek of one of my favorite songs off of her latest album. The video for Love on Top, channels another one of my favorite throwback songs from New Edition ‘If It Isn’t Love’.

I think Oprah realized that her fans wanted  to see more of her in front of the camera. After starting her own network OWN, Oprah hasn’t seen as much success as she’s used to with the less than outstanding reviews of her network. So of course she knew it was time to give her fans what they wanted: more of her.

Oprah, who claims she always knew she would be a teacher, has started a new series where she opens up about some of the biggest lessons learned in both her personal and professional life, 25 lessons to be exact. The show, Oprah’s Lifeclass, begins tonight at 8 pm EST on OWN.

I don’t know about you, but I’m actually more excited about this than I was about her actual talk show. I’ve always been a huge Oprah fan and enjoyed the show, but I never watched regularly. I think these classes, in which Oprah’s says will make your lives richer, will be great lessons and definitely different than the Oprah Winfrey Show. Will you be watching?

What initiated your passion for fashion?

 My passion for fashion started with my mom taking me to Marshall Fields. Marshall Fields was like heaven on earth for every little girl. Just seeing the visual merchandisers prep for the new season was what triggered my love/respect for fashion.

 How would you describe your personal style?

 My style is classic blended with tons of color. I love to wear classic pieces and jazz it up with a mixture if colors. 

 Who are your fashion icons or inspirations?

 My fashion icons are the late Grace Kelly, Princess Kate Williams, Victoria Beckham and Audrey Hepburn

 What are your three fashion must-haves?

 Three fashion must haves for me are a tapered blazer, Jeffery Campbell shoes and a boyfriend watch.

 How would you describe Mic’Nes Styling and Imaging?

 Mic’Nes styling and imaging is for anyone and everyone who wants to take their fashion to the next level. The company provides its clients with a high performance experience they won’t get anywhere else. The services offered hint the needs of every person from home decorum to a personal stylist. I’m here to make my clients life easier any way I can.

 In addition to Mic’Nes Styling and Imaging, you have a designer scarf line. What is the inspiration behind the line?

 As I grew up I noticed my mother wouldn’t wear jewelry to accessorize with her clothing but she wore scarves. She is the person who introduced me to scarves and showed me how to wear them multiple ways. So with her passing I decided to live out her obsession for scarves and design my own scarf line. She was the epitome of a Scarf Queen. 

 What are some of the obstacles you have had to endure as a female entrepreneur in such a competitive business?

 I would say the ability to not lose who you are is a big obstacle. Having clear censuses of who you are and where you want to go helps you navigate throughout a competitive business. As well as not being looked at as another stylist or company owner but people noticing you and your work on a daily basis is another obstacle I face.

 If you weren’t doing this, what do you think you would be doing?

I’ve loved fashion since I was a little girl. So I can’t see myself doing anything outside of fashion and having a passion for it. I breathe and live fashion and when you do so people can see that it’s not just a job for you, it’s your lifestyle. 

 What vision do you have for you and your company within the next couple of years?

I visualize my company being a well rounded brand standing on it’s own merits. As well as being a highly sought out stylist.

It’s no secret that fashion is a passion of Kanye West. The usually cocky rapper, admitted his nervousness as he debuted his fashion line, DW, at this weekend’s Paris Fashion Week; but not surprisingly the rapper was greeted by rave reviews for his attempt at fashion.

His designs were definitely influenced by established fashion greats, but that’s expected since Kanye seems to be a student of fashion as of lately. Overall, I loved most of the looks Kanye’s models wore on the runway. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a rapper-turned designer who creates clothing for women other than denim with gaudy logos.

The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve gained an appreciation for classic, effortless style. You know style that doesn’t look as if you’ve spent hours in the mirror trying to look  fabulous (even if you did). Someone who embodies an effortless style is designer, Rachel Roy. Even better is that she has a clothing line that embodies the same thing. Everyone from our First Lady Michelle Obama to Gabrielle Union has donned Rachel’s designs.

I love her classic pieces mixed with a bit of edge. From her hair and make-up to her wardrobe, nothing says “I’m forcing this look and yeah I look uncomfortable doing so”. Instead Rachel’s look screams “I am effortlessly fabulous”.
