For those of us who frequently get dark circles under our eyes, we know that concealer can be a girls’ best friend. Still in addition to the cover up, you want to rid your natural face (pre-makeup) from the unsightly dark circles. Normally I don’t get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Actually, I only attempt 6 hours. So besides my lack of sleep and my genetic make-up that consists of occasional puffy eyes, I am constantly looking for ways to rid myself of dark circles aka raccoon eyes.

Of course, I’m all for home remedies. I ran across an article that suggested two remedies for raccoon eyes. The usual cucumber slices was mentioned in addition to the tea bag method.

Check it when you READ MORE.

Best home remedy for dark circles

via www.darkcircles.net (the name gets straight to the point)

The most effective remedy for dark circles is also the most cliche. Thin slices of cucumber applied to your eyes not only helps to lighten the skin, but also soothes and cools the eyes. This can be especially comforting if you’ve been up late the night before or your eyes are red and tired from allergies or staring at a laptop screen.

Lay down on your back (because it’s easier to balance the cucumber slices that way). Lay thin slices of cucumber on your eyes, making sure they have contact with the skin under the eyes. Leave them on for 5-10 minutes. It’s a good idea to set your alarm clock if you’re doing this early in the morning. Be careful not to get cucumber juice in your eyes.

Tea bags as a remedy for dark circles

The caffeine in tea bags acts as a remedy for dark circles by diminishing puffiness. Caffeine in tea helps to diminish water in the tissues around the eyes (you’ll notice that many early eye circle creams contain caffeine for this very reason). In addition, tea contains antioxidants that are beneficial to the skin.

Take a used tea bag (green, black or white) that’s been squeezed out. Make sure it’s cool! Leave it over your eyes for about 10 minutes. You’ll see a noticeable improvement in puffiness and under-eye circles. Be careful not to get tea in your eyes.

Herbal tea bags are not useful as a remedy for dark circles, except for chamomile tea. Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory that can help reduce swelling and puffiness.

Although I am a bona fide product junkie, I utilize natural supplements more than those that can be bought at a drugstore. Lemons have become my best (and cheapest) friend when it comes to my skincare regimen. These fruit, that cost under $1.00, have more beauty and health benefits than I could have ever imagined. From clearer skin to detoxification, check out a few of the benefits of lemons listed by LifeMojo.Com; then go out, buy a few lemons, and put them to good use. Your health, beauty, and your pockets will thank you.

Some people have a smile that represents their inner beauty. Kelly Rowland has just that. As a member of Destiny’s Child, I will admit that I overlooked Kelly at times; but since she’s branched out into her solo career, you can’t help but take notice of her beauty, both inside and out. As she spoke recently with ESSENCE, she emphasized the importance of self-love and inner beauty.

Here’s a snippet of what Kelly had to say:

On Inner Beauty…

It took a long while for me to know that I’m beautiful. I remember going through this phase when I was younger of wanting to pass by mirrors and not look at them. That was so ridiculous. I’ve learned now that beauty starts from within. If you don’t know your worth, if you don’t know your value, if you don’t know how fantabulous you are — it’s going to be hard for other people to see it. Being appreciative of self, is beauty to me.

READ MORE OF WHAT KELLY HAD TO SAY

On Her Beauty Icons…

One of my beauty icons is Oprah Winfrey. I love that fact that she’s so comfortable with herself. One of my favorite episodes of her show was when she showed millions of people how she woke up in the morning with no makeup on. That was so selfless and revealing. She’s very real and genuine and I love that. Halle Berry is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Same thing with Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson — especially as a kid, because they have brown skin like me. I remember looking at magazines and television and seeing someone that looked like me and seeing a piece of myself in them.

As women, bombarded with constant images and expectations in the media of what beauty is, we may forget that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, colors, and backgrounds; and as long as you are beautiful in the inside, everything else is secondary. The most important thing is to love and embrace who you are, and even who you aren’t, from the inside out.

Constantly remind yourself how beautiful you are! You deserve to sing your own praises!
